We are pleased that we can now invite visitors back into school to enhance our curriculum and learning. Next half term, Year 6 will be studying the Mystery of the Maya. For our stunning start, we have invited Dr Diane Davis, a unique archaeologist who specialises on the Ancient Maya, to give a full day workshop to the Year 6 children. This will take place on Tuesday 2nd November. During the day, children will carry out activities of historical enquiry and view a large collection of Maya artefacts. Dr Diane will give a presentation to the children explaining how archaeologists gain an understanding about the past; the magnificent achievements of the Maya; what it is like to work as an archaeologist in the Maya rainforest; and some of the things she has discovered. The children will then take part in a workshop where they will have the opportunity to calculate sums using the Maya number system and make their own real-time Maya calendar. They will learn how to read it and will be able to use it for the next 52 years of their lives! We hope this will be an inspiring and exciting day for the children.
